There’s something going on with this band. I’m not sure what it is. It just feels like there is some-thing going on. Maybe it’s because homie at KISW ripped out of the gate throwing their live demos on the radio on his Loud and Local shows. Did you read that? Their live demos. On the radio. These guys can fucking play. It reminds me of how it used to work with the radio thing. None of those overdubs or computer shit. No social media stats. No digital gatekeeper. Real. Raw. Live. Four dudes in a sweaty room recording songs thru a four-track onto a cassette tape and hatching a plan of how to get it into the hands of that one guy who played the cool shit at the radio station… Ah, I digress.
Yeah. I really couldn’t tell you what it is about this band. I do know the first time I saw them live, it was an acoustic show. And it ripped. I can imagine what happens when you get half stacks involved.
I listened to the singles on the internets but it didn’t really work until I plugged the phone into an analogue speaker set up and fucking cranked it. But even then the phone got in the way. It’s out Feb. 24. They’re planning for vinyl, CD and streaming. This is the kind of album that I just want to pour a whiskey, crack a tall can, light a joint, put the needle down and sink into… That intro on the ‘Downhill’ demo is crawling straight out of the grave of late-70s Sabbath stuff. And then the groove hits! “Shiiiit roles downhiiiiiiiillll.” Goddamn, it’s good to hear Skot Davis singing. // NICK SLEDGE
