inspiration!!

Hello,

Since I moved from Seattle to Bremerton in Nov/2023, Smokestack has been a really good way to get fresh local vibe and event updates.

And in June/2025, I encountered a magical article by Bill Man about his bus trip to the coast, “Riding Public Transit to The Coast”.

As a walker and public transportation enthusiast, I found the article so inspiring and ever since reading that piece, I pitched the idea of riding bus to Pacific to everyone I knew.

And finally, my partner’s friend’s partner Chris agreed to go with me during her vacation, and we did the trip last week.

Chris lives in Seattle so she took a bus and then fast ferry to Bremerton to start her public transit journey 1 day before our departure from Bremerton to the coast.

We left  Bremerton at 5:45am on Tuesday and got to Kalaloch by 3:36pm and it took 6 wonderful bus rides.  Because of windy and rainy March weather, we couldn’t camp like Mr. Man but stayed at the lodge at night. And, on Wednesday, we kept riding buses to Aberdeen and then to Olympia to continue our journey on Amtrak to Portland.

I am not an extrovert and I usually don’t write emails unless I have to. But I really really wanted to thank you for your interesting work and inspiring topics in your magazine.

Thank you Mr. Bill Man. You encouraged me to expand my love of public transit to the coast and back.

I will keep reading Smokestack and look forward to finding more to love about this area.

Best,

Sunyeob

Believe-It-Or-Not Stuff: The Headlights

Believe it or not, those lights were across the Sound, past Seattle now, and still flying–faster and higher than I’d ever seen anything fly. We sat there for quite some time, silently staring in awe at what we had just witnessed. To this day, I still wonder what those headlights
