SO YOU’RE INTO MEDIEVAL COMBAT? You’re in luck. The Barony of Dragon’s Laire, part of the Kingdom of Antir, is coming together for its annual June Faire at the fairgrounds this month, June 15. The group is part of the Society for Creative Anachronism, which began in 1960s Berkely, Ca. and has grown into an international fraternity devoted to the study and re-creation of mostly-europen medieval cultures, customs and crafts. This annual local event is a gathering for members set up camp, display their wares and engage in all things Old World. Medieval music, dancing, food and costume. Weaving. Pottery. Blacksmithing. Swords. Daggers. Crossbows. Siege warfare. Martial competitions. And a Middle Ages War procession at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at Thunderbird Stadium. If you’re more into medieval Scottish games, later that afternoon Bushel & Barrel will host its 4th Annual Ciderhouse Highland Games. And if you’re more into the middle ages on the high seas, Kingston will host its second annual Pirate Festival with the Pirates of the Puget Sound re-enactors the week prior on June 8. // JAMES MUNK

CAR SHOW SEASON is upon us. And, if you didn’t know, there are some really badass cars around this town. Most don’t come out until the sun comes out. Looking at a monthly forecast with more than a dozen days where the sun is bigger than the clouds in June–and only two days marked with rain clouds for July–now would be a good time to get ready to pull those suckers out of the garage. I can already hear the braaaaapp… For those without badass cars to get tuned up and ready to ride, you’ve got the easy job of marking your calendar for the annual Shift Into Summer block party in the Chaos Brewing parking lot in Bremerton. Car show and pin-up contest with live tunes from Common Ancestor and hula performances throughout the day, starting at 9 a.m. June 22. Forecast says 68 degrees and partly cloudy. MUSIC EVERYWHERE… Forty Some Years ago, the French Ministry of Culture dreamed up a holiday where music would be played all day, on rooftops, street corners, parks and storefronts, all around each city, free of charge. Crazy thing is, it worked. Each year, the country shuts down on the summer solstice and musicians of all types take to the streets while millions of people come out to listen to music for free. It’s now an international event. Bremerton’s in. While they won’t shut down the city, the local Music Discovery Center will host a free, seven-hour all ages concert with musicians of all types, plus a touch-and-try instrument booth, June 22 at Evergreen Park. // BILL MAN

THE BREMERTON BRIDGE BLAST is back for its 7th year June 29-30. Billed as the biggest bridge fireworks show on the west coast, the event brings out an estimated 30,000 people to watch thousands of dollars of fireworks get blown up off the Manette bridge. Boats fill Sinclair inlet. The bridge shuts down. There’s backyard parties scattered all throughout the bridge facing neighborhoods. The fireworks start at 10:15 p.m. Saturday night with two official viewing areas at the downtown boardwalk and at Evergreen Rotary Park. Downtown, an all-day festival featuring rows of food vendors, merchants, a beer garden and live music has been expanded to two days this year starting at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Evergreen Park will feature a slate of family-friendly events from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday with food trucks, face-painters, a baloon artist and a flying dog agility show. // BILL MAN
