I’M JUST GONNA SAY IT… And I mean this in a good way. I think. But goddamn, I feel like I’m getting old. It hit me in a way, when I got stoked about Canadian Punk Legends D.O.A. coming to the Chuck last month. And then, stoked that another legendary punk band Agent Orange is at the Tracyton this month. And then… stoked John Wright from NoMeansNo is playing with his new band there in June. And then… M.D.C. back at the Chuck later that month! And then… I realized I was saying ‘stoked’ a lot and that each one of those bands formed just before 1980. Whoa. That’ll make you feel old. But, unpopular opinion, that’s not always a bad thing. In fact, I’d be happy to go back and tell my pissed off angsty teenage self that I’m still rocking. Anyway. Case in point. Garage Heroes. Great name for a band that can testify that sentiment. They’re a Poulsbo band that’s got a new album out this month—’Garage Heroes II.’ Old school dudes, ripping old school tunes. Seattle roots blended with early-70’s rock and blues. And what’s cool about being old is doing the old school shit. Like printing posters for shows. Making those 8.5×11 glossy marketing photos, like bands did in the beforetimes. Like putting your album out on vinyl. With this album, the Garage Heroes have got a theme going. The eruption of Mount St. Helens. The last song on the album, a seven minute journey, is called ‘Saint Helen.’ The cover art is the iconic photo of the red pinto parked with a motorcycle hitched behind it in the billowing shadow of the volcano. Garage Heroes vinyl will be available at their release show June 1, but the album will be out earlier on the streaming stuff on May 18—the anniversary of the eruption. In what year? You guessed it. 1980. // NICK SLEDGE
