CRAVIN MOORE: Chad Price, you and I go back several years if not several decades now. Do you remember what year we first met?
CHAD PRICE: I would guess it was ’90, around there.
CRAVIN: What band were you in at that time?
CHAD: I was in a band called Appletree at the time.
CRAVIN: When we met, it was in Kansas City MO, and it was at a recording studio there. You came in and did some back up vocal tracks. Do you remember what studio that was, and what band that was?
CHAD: I know the band was ALL but I cannot remember the studio. I DO remember the motel ALL was staying at was the shadiest joint I’ve ever seen in my life.
CRAVIN: Not long after that you then ended up becoming the lead singer of ALL. How did that happen?
CHAD: Scott (singer) ended up quitting the band a year or so later and the dudes obviously knew I could sing since I just did backups on the record. I was the first to try out before Bill flew to L.A. and tried more dudes out. I guess I was the right man for the job.
CRAVIN: So you’re a young Missouri kid in their early 20’s, and you have members of legendary bands like Black Flag and the Descendents asking you to tour the world as the lead singer for their band.Do you remember how you felt when you left home that first time?
CHAD: My mind was blown. I couldn’t believe I got the job in the first place. My favorite band asked me to join. Crazy stuff. I still lived with my parents so not only was I leaving home for the first time I was immediately traveling the world. Life changer for realz!
CRAVIN: Right at the end of the pandemic ALL played in Las Vegas at the Punk Rock Bowling Music Festival. How did it feel to step on that stage after the world was just on lockdown for two years?
CHAD: Being up there with 10,000 or so people looking at you after 2 years of isolation was wild. Felt so good like maybe one day the world could be normal again. Clearly I was incorrect hahaha
CRAVIN: You’ve always kind of lived on the other side of the Rocky Mountains.Where are you based out of at this time, where is it you call home?
CHAD: My wife and I moved to Bloomington Indiana about 5 1/2 years ago. Colorado is an amazing place to live but it was getting very crowded and very expensive. The only problem I have with Bloomington (I mean other than not legalizing weed) is that bands just do not tour through here. I usually have to drive an hour to Indianapolis so that leads me to not going to shows. It’s so sad.
CRAVIN: Tonight you are playing a solo acoustic set, but the fact of the matter is as long as I have known you, you have pretty much always played in more than one band at a time. Off the top of your head… Can you ramble off most, if not all the bands you’ve played in over the years?
CHAD: Not too many. Formaldehyde Cocktail, Dirt, Appletree, ALL, Drag The River, Armchair Martian, Rocky Votolato, A Vulture Wake
CRAVIN: So you play in a country band called Drag The River from Fort Collins Colorado. Like a lot of country bands DTR has a lot of songs about drinking. Now a few minutes ago I offered to buy you a drink, and you explained that you no longer drink the booze. How does it feel to play-n-sing drinking songs with the lifestyle you choose to live today?
CHAD: Ya know, I don’t believe we really have that many drinking songs. It’s just the fact that we were such drunks. Also Drag hasn’t played in years and when I play solo I focus on solo material. Which is primarily about rainbows.
CRAVIN: Along with playing Country music you play in some punk rock bands too. Currently you are playing in a punk rock band by the name of “A Vulture Wake.” Can you give us a description of A Vulture Wake?
CHAD: I think AVW has 2 sides. One is hard rock and the other is prog punk. We’re like if Jethro Tull and Black Flag (Henry years) had a lil’ baby. Both sides are pissed though.
CRAVIN: A Vulture Wake just released a record. What’s that record called, and where do we find it?
CHAD: The new record is called One.Kingdom.Animal. and you can find it digitally through the regular channels or get all kinds of stuff through our label Thousand Islands Records.
CRAVIN: Do you see A Vulture Wake coming on tour to the Northwest anytime in the future?
CHAD: Absolutely and hopefully real soon. We’re looking into the west coast as we speak so hoping for summertime.
